AFFN Festivals
Bergamo Film Meeting
BFM promotes the knowledge of film culture, focusing both on contemporary and independent filmmaking, as well as on masterpieces and auteurs from cinema history. With a selection of over 150 films, competitions, tributes, and retrospective sections, the festival ensures each year a diversified programme accompanied by collateral activities, ranging from visual arts to literature, from music to comics. To provide the audience with maximum engagement and opportunities for in-depth analysis, each edition is enriched by international guests, meetings with talents and film experts, cine-concerts, and special events, as well as film literacy initiatives, workshops, and seminars with a specific focus on young people and schools
FEMA La Rochelle
The Festival La Rochelle Cinema – International Film Festival (Fema), a non-competitive and non-specialised festival, screens each year 250 films of which most part are non-national European films. Each edition, attendance figures are expected to reach 90 000 over ten days. The programme is organised into retrospectives, tributes, discoveries, a section devoted to previously unseen films and previews, a section presenting restored films, a Nuit Blanche (an all-night, themed film marathon), children’s films, film-concerts and special events. The screenings are accompanied by a variety of master classes and interviews with film personalities. Additionally, events are organised throughout the festival for industry professionals.
Midnight Sun FF
Founded in 1986 by film directors Aki Kaurismäki and Mika Kaurismäki, Midnight Sun FF is the longest running feature film festival in Finland. Located north of the Arctic Circle, the festival plays a vital part in shaping the cultural landscape of northern Finland (over 80% of the films shown are Lapland premieres). With continuing emphasis on presenting archive films along with new European titles, each year MSFF presents over 100 films. Archive titles are presented in the program under various strands such as retrospectives of attending filmmakers, silent cinema, children’s screenings, series of master classes and special screenings as well as in all year round events. The library of MSFF consists of over hundred recorded filmmaker discussions which are used for all year round education initiatives.
Summer Film School
Since 1974 the Summer Film School has aimed at widening the horizons of film clubs and other interested people (film club lecturers, high school and university students) in the field of art cinema and different contexts of cinema. During the 1990s the SFS experienced remarkable progress – from a seminar for film clubs it has become the biggest Czech non-competition film festival with carefully curated program of more than 150 archive and contemporary films, rich expert programme and accompanying programme. It is visited by thousands of primarily young filmgoers every year (about 5000 visitors annually). The films are screened all around the town in six movie theaters and two open-air cinemas. The festival is organised by the Association of Czech Film Clubs.
